Dermaplaning vs oil planing which method is right for you? One of my favorite beauty secrets for glowing skin is Oilplaning or dermaplaning with an oil. I have been oilplaning for more years than I can even remember. In my opinion, it is the ideal way to exfoliate and oilplaning is a complete game-changer for anyone who has dry or dehydrated sensitive skin. You will be amazed at how radiant your skin looks immediately. after and the silky smooth texture is addictive. The derma plane facial is one the most popular treatments in my dermatology clinic and patients are really amazed at how much peach fuzz they have removed from their skin. Timestamps 0:00 Intro 0:47 What’s Dermaplaning “Beauty Shave”? 1:04 Benefits of Dermaplaning / Oilplaning 2:34 Best Dermaplaning Tool 3:02 Who should NOT do dermaplaning 4:05 Dermaplaning Myths 5:45 Dermaplaning recommendations 6:29 Dermaplaning vs Oilplaning 7:16 My favorite facial oils 7:30 Step-by-Step dermaplane tutorial What is Dermaplaning? A painless procedure in which a stainless steel blade is carefully guided against the skin at a 45-degree angle, removing layers of dead skin and vellus hairs (fine thin hairs) aka peach fuzz. Benefits of Dermaplaning: Dermaplaning removes ~3 weeks worth of dead cells. So a super effective and gentle exfoliation process. It s not to take the place of chemical exfoliation because you only do this once monthly. Dermaplaning allows skincare products to better penetrate into the skin and absorb better instead of essentially being wasted on layers of dead skin. Helps you get the most out of your products. Dermaplaning removes unwanted facial hair/peach fuzz. Makeup will go on more evenly, and appear less blotchy because typically products and makeup sit on top of the hairs and mat down the hairs) this provides a super smooth canvas. It s also great for textured Skin because the skin immediately looks much smoother, brighter, and more youthful. Removing surface build-up via dermaplaning helps decongest the skin. Typically I do this in the office with a surgical blade as you can see the edge of this is very sharp and you definitely don’t want to use this at home BUT This is one procedure that most patients can safely and effectively do at home the tool I would recommend for home has a guard on the edges so something like this because you are much less likely to get a cut. So in today s video I am going to show you how to derma plane with this tool that you can easily pick up at target that is much safer to use at home. Avoid dermaplaning if any of the below describes your skin: • Active Acne • Skin that is peeling after laser or chemical peels • Compromised sensitized skin (i.e open, or sunburned skin) or actively/currently flared Inflammatory skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea LED Light Therapy is a great is do right after dermaplaning. Amongst many other things red light helps with decreasing inflammation making it a great way to end your dermaplaning or oilplaning treatment And DO NOT worry dermaplaning does not cause your hair to grow back thicker or darker your hair will grow back just as fine as it was within a few weeks! Additional tips: On the day of dermaplaning avoid using strong active ingredients to lessen the sensitivity of the skin. Avoid combining with other exfoliation methods like scrubs and peels. Wait at least 24 hours before using an additional exfoliation method. For best results, finish with an ultra-hydrating serum. Body Hyperpigmentation is normal anyone with more melanin rich skin will have some shade variations within the body. But I do understand that severe hyperpigmentation Can affect your quality of life: pigment remains for years much more troublesome than the initial cause of pigment. so if that you in this video I am going to provide you with a simple guide you can follow to improve your hyperpigmentation Keep in mind you’ll need different products and slightly more aggressive yet strategic approach than with facial pigmentation because body skin is thicker, and the cells turn over cycle is slower so you need higher percentages and lower ph than on the face to actually get proper absorption of actives into the thicker skin on the body So in general you are going to want to cycle between products that are pigment inhibitors, exfoliators and cell rejuvenators aka retinols to stop the over production of melanin. Retinols recommended in the video: Paula’s Choice - https://shop-links.co/cge0raZMWqZ Versed Retinol - https://shop-links.co/cge0rbv5NfD Exfoliation products recommended in the video: SkinFix Resurface exfoliation pads - https://shop-links.co/cge0rbeRVGX Pigment inhibitors recommended in the video: Faded - https://shop-links.co/cge0rbJhve2 Cyspera- https://lddy.no/h66b Moisturizers Recommended: La Roche Posay Lipikar AP Balm - https://shop-links.co/cge0rbszYnF Acne: even tone correcting body cleansing bar - https://shop-links.co/cge0sl1h1Z0 Its recommended to always patch test before starting a new product and to only introduce one new product at a time. For epidermal treatment I recommended the Every third day skin cycle regimen- you are going to switch up what you are dong every third night, treatment, exfoliate , repair mode Every third night you are with focusing on treating (mon/thur/sun); exfoliating (Tuesday, fri) or repairing the skin (wed/saturday) So what this would look like on a treatment day is using a gentle wash, follow that up with faded hyperpigmentation treatment spray and a moisturizer rich in linoleic omega fatty acids. Night 2 exfoliate: the exfoliating product you choose should be specific to the body area of pigmentation you are treating for example for bikini and under arm hyperpigmentation, follow this up with your omega rich Moisturizer Night 3: is all about nourishing our skin barrier while rebuilding our skin structure with a retinol rich with omegas Sunscreen for any area that is openly exposed to the skin and covering with clothing! If your pigmentation is truly dermal it is unlikely to respond to OTC products and you may need to consider seeking your dermatologist for the best treatment options for you in my office we do chemical peels specific for the body, laser treatment, infusion microneedling etc. because Often there is a combination of both epidermal and dermal starting off with this regimen would be helpful in seeing some improvement OTC- 3-6 MONTHS/CELL CYCLES TO WORK- dark marks on the body take much longer to fade than dark marks on your face because of the slower cell turn over rate This video was highly requested by you guys. Dark spots, Post Inflammatory,  Hyperpigmentation, and Melasma are notoriously difficult skin conditions to treat. Many people find themselves on the hunt for the perfect option to clear the dark marks and once the hyperpigmentation is finally cleared the rollercoaster ride begins of trying to keep the spot clear or prevent new marks from showing up. This can become very exhausting as even the very best topical ingredients have their limits.  As we start to approach the warmer weather and venture outside you may want to consider choosing one of the supplements discussed to help fight hyperpigmentation from the inside out. Listed below are the dietary changes and supplements as well as a new prescription pill that is super effective when it comes to treating hyperpigmentation in the right patient. Up your Vit C by drinking lemon water, eating your colorful veggies etc. broccoli and asparagus are rich in the mother of all antioxidants glutathione. Add antioxidants+ anti-inflammatory spices to your food like turmeric and ginger, drink your green tea and Indulge wisely Red wine and dark chocolate are also rich in antioxidants The number one supplement that I recommend to my patients because there is mounting scientific evidence showing how beneficial and effective it is at treating melasma and other forms of hyperpigmentation is polypodium leucotomos PLE is a fern plant extract oral antioxidant found in: summerready:https://shop-links.co/1739982564201063697 isdin:https://shop-links.co/1739982512154064391 heliocare: https://shop-links.co/1739982237491756221 There are some new products on the market worth mentioning that you guys my want to look into I am currently trying the Blur Potion by Zitsticka. It has a nice blend of antioxidants: In regards to oral prescription medications there is an extremely effective scientifically-backed oral medication for melasma called Tranexamic acid - it works by decreasing melanin synthesis, and decreasing angiogenesis, and significantly reduces the visible appearance of hyperpigmentation its been prescribed for years by our Obgyn colleagues for clotting disorders and it is considered an off label use* Rx required & not everyone is a good candidate) From my patient experience and extensive review of the data, this is one of my favorite options for the appropriate patients who are dealing with stubborn recalcitrant melasma. You absolutely have to talk to your doctor about the risk vs benefits of this medication everyone is NOT a good candidate. These do not take the place of sunscreen* Sunscreen is still your number 1 defense against any and all forms of hyperpigmentation, These are a fantastic additional option especially for those with stubborn pigmentation.  Thanks so much for watching. I hope you found this video helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions for me if so Leave them down below and I will see you in the next video or over on IG. @dralexisstephens YOUTUBE DISCLAIMERS MEDICAL DISCLAIMER: ALL INFORMATION PROVIDED BY DR. Signal peptides as the name suggest are basically signaling your skin to create more collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans like HA and to decrease the breakdown of collagen. The most popular peptide for cosmetic use is MATRIXYL(brand name)/Palmitoyl Pentapeptide 4 and Matrixyl 3000 (palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7). These peptides restore and maintain the skin’s youthful appearance by signaling to cells to produce more collagen.
